| New Milford Rotary
sponsors a Youth Exchange program for New Milford High School.
Usually, one student from the high school studies in a foreign
country, and a student from abroad studies at the high
school. The program lasts a full academic year.
The Rotary Club is looking for
two or three families to host this student during his/her
10-month stay in New Milford. Students usually arrive
mid-August and leave at the end of June.
Hosting a foreign student is a
rewarding experience. You will build new friendships, learn
about a different culture and customs, welcome a new
"son" or "daughter" into your family, and
show them what the U.S. is really like (not just what they see
in the movies!)
Your student will become a
member of your family, not be a guest in your home. You will
provide room, board, transportation, and parental supervision
while the student is in your home. Your student will be
treated like other children in your home, including doing
chores. However, having children at home is not a requirement.
Older adults often have the time and the room for an exchange
student.
Your student will attend New
Milford High School and will be in the 11th or 12th grade.
He/She will be encouraged to join sports, band, or other
activities as a way to build friendships, and get the most
from their experience in New Milford.
Youth Exchange is a way to
build bridges between countries and foster better
understanding. The commitment you make for a few months will
help achieve this goal. The relationships you develop are long
lasting. Hosting brings a new dimension to your life, as well
as the student's.
